CHICKEN AND SQUASH CAN CAUSE LEPROSY?
While we were watching a volleyball tournament on TV, I mentioned to my uncle that I am going to cook chicken with squash for dinner. He immediately shushed me and told me that the combination can cause leprosy? I'm sure I heard it before from our old folks but I'm not convinced. How can the lowly chicken and vitamin-rich squash cause leprosy? Leprosy is caused by a certain strain of bacteria, right? I told him it might just be an old wives tale but I got curious.
I checked Google and there are as many as beautiful chicken and squash dish photos as there are comments from people who affirmed what my uncle said. Whoa!
I wonder if any of those who prepared these dishes have leprosy now. Just look at these mouth-watering dishes:
I ended up cooking chicken, squash and other vegetables still. I'm stubborn like that and I am also not a big believer of old wive's tales. Do you believe that chicken and squash can cause leprosy?
CHICKEN AND SQUASH RED CURRY
Here's to hoping we don't get leprosy when we wake up tomorrow. What's your take on this old wive's tale? Do you believe it?
Those pamahiins are really influential to relatives. The moment I saw the title or what your tito said, I immediately got curious. It's not the usual pamahiin that I hear but it's definitely something. I wonder where he heard it and what happened to those who believed. Did they debunk that mystery?
ReplyDeleteI checked Google and there are really people who believes that the two ingredients in one dish can cause leprosy. Guess what! We had it for dinner last night and I did not develop leprosy.
Deletestill I am afraid of...
ReplyDeleteHaha. Funny are those old wives tales. But you're right. Those dishes look so mouthwatering I might prepare any as well and nevermind the leprosy myth.
ReplyDeleteYep yep! Nevermind the myth. It's nutritious anyway.
DeleteIf those two can cause leprosy, I must have been a leper a long time ago. I love squash and chicken. I haven't tried them in the same dish, though. I love chicken when it's grilled. I love squash when it is in a soup. Maybe I'll try your recipe one of these days.
ReplyDeleteThe old wives tale is centered only on combining the two in one dish. So if they are prepared with other ingredients then you won't develop leprosy. Even then, we had both for dinner and we're still leprosy-free now. I guess let's leave the tale behind. Back when our old folks believe what they want to believe. It could probably just be a coincidence when someone in the old days acquired the leprosy after a meal of chicken and squash.
DeleteI haven't heared about that "pamahiin", but my mom alwasy cooked for us a squash and chicken combi meal and as of writing, we were all so fine. Hahah!
ReplyDeleteI am scared of seeing the colorful, yummy food may cause the leporay. I asked my doctor husband. He grinned and said "nothing wrong if we try this".I got confused. But surely I will investigate this myth before cooking..😁
ReplyDeleteI never heard of this actually. Well in that case, use another ingredient than chicken. Why not go for a vegetarian option? I love eating vegetarian and vegan :)
ReplyDeleteThat's the strangest thing I have ever heard! I absolutely do not think chicken and squash can cause leprosy! The proof is that I have eaten chicken and squash and I have zero leprosy! Your food pictures are gorgeous, by the way!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't tried it in our house. Chicken is rarely cooked because of my mom's health. When we found out that the chicken's skin is not good for the heart, we avoided it. And for the squash, we cook it with other vegetables. This is the first time I have heard of it and your title is really interesting.
ReplyDeleteWell this is the first time I heard about this haha. Tho I don't know if they have acientific findings about the combination or it's just an old wives tales. Stilk those dishes look darn delicious to me!
ReplyDeleteLeprosy caused by chicken and squash... what a superstitious belief!!! I guess somebody wanted to save the dish all for him or herself from others and just spread the rumour. :) The combination is both healthy and tasty.
ReplyDeleteHuh. Sometimes it is interesting to see how creative they are to find things superstitious and gives reasons. The dishes looks colorful and feel like I want to taste it. It's past midnight, and this post makes me hungry now. :)
